Revolution Midfielder Ian Harkes

On the progress made in preseason thus far:

Harkes: “Yeah, there’s been a lot of progress. There’s still a lot to go, obviously. It’s early on. Caleb and his staff are working and giving us an identify and focusing off the ball and then on the ball in the buildup, and today was a big test of that. Ultimately, we kind of failed a little bit, but it just shows that we just keep working.”

On the first preseason test against an opponent:

Harkes: “It’s always different when you’re up against an opponent versus every day in the group and in training. So, it was a good test.”

On the value of getting 45 minutes in a warm climate:

Harkes: “Yeah, it’s a lot different from the training in Boston and what we were used to last week. So, we’re catching up in that way and in our fitness and everything, getting used to it, but it’s going to set us up well for the season.”

On the new players on the team fitting in:

Harkes: “Oh, they’re great. You can tell they’re top professionals and really good guys. They are a joy to have around the group, so we’re welcoming them in and starting to gel.”

On the new players on the team fitting in:

Harkes: “We’re going to review what happened today, because we still take pride in everything and you know, we’re disappointed with how today turned out. I think there’s a lot that we can work on and focus on from an individual standpoint – obviously, we’re all building – and then collectively, as a group, so we’ll take a look at that and attack it the next couple days.”
